Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Hard Rock artist Frank Palangi. Huge thanks to him for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Frank Palangi – guitar/vocals & songwriting.
Home grown New York Indie-Rock Recording Artist. Frank Palangi fuels a refreshing positive outlook with his quote “NO PLAN B” that acts as his mission. Serving up a feeding frenzy of edgy heavy guitars, deep n gritty vocals and a modern yet post grunge – old school rock tone. Starting out after leaving high school with a solid support system backing, Frank’s dream of music began a few years later on a path that led to the 2011 debut self-titled “Frank Palangi EP”. Influenced by bands from the 80’s (Metallica, Ozzy, Def Leppard, Megadeth), 90’s (Creed, Godsmack, 3 Doors Down), 2000’s (Daughtry, Three Days Grace, Shinedown), he sculpted his musical motifs in the music mecca Nashville, TN. Leading up after with the “I Am Ready EP’ – “Set Me Free EP” and an upcoming untitled 4th EP, working with various industry producers and national act band members from Day of Fire, Pillar, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and Saving Abel. Frank isn’t the stereotypical rocker with the Rock’n’Roll lifestyle you may think they are viewed as. From early childhood he learned to adapt to his chronic medical illnesses that impacted his decisions in his everyday life. Turning it all around, he used it to bring his dreams into reality saying “I have no Plan B backing down on my dreams.”

How did you come up with your band name?

I was in a high band and then went solo ever since and used my name.

What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?

USA and it’s popular – some underground stuff – mainstream bands still touring and rockin it up!

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

“Set Me Free” EP with the music videos on VEVO – also a new cover song ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn’ (acoustic) coming out May 23rd on iTunes, Amazon and more!

Who have been your greatest influences?

Metallica – Megadeth – Ozzy – Creed – Daughtry

What first got you into music?

The movie ‘The Crow’ actually. A dead rocker coming back to life I thought was really cool and wanted to learn the guitar and play what he did in the film. That’s how it all started.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Any of the rock ones! I’m not picky with that. Any of them huge ones would be a huge opportunity!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

It’s weird but Cheerwine soda – cans from the south! My fans are awesome! I live in NY and cant’ get em up here in the north.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Never back down on your dreams!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Johnny Cash!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love the fan interaction and live show feeling of connecting. I also love the studio work and working with different people in that way.
Honestly social media and promotions can be a huge burden from the artistic time.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Labels taking a chance more on indie artists for their talents and not just streams and follower numbers and how popular that you made yourself without their help just to slap a label on it afterwards.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Metallica – “Black Album”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

CD’s I’m a fan!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Opening for Alice in Chains and Janes Addiction at the Uproar Festival.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Acting or making films, maybe some modelling

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, James Hatfield, John Carpenter and Wes Craven!

What’s next for the band?

I’m working on my 4th EP that I hope to release late 2019 but in the meantime I’m playing acoustic around north east region and doing some side work with recording, producing, guitar lessons for others and some acting. I’m excited to share the new cover ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn’ also. Big fans of the 80’s!
