EMQ’s with EGONAUT
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Swedish Doom N Roll band Egonaut. Huge thanks to them for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Dennis, Organ and Keys. Mikael, Bass.
Egonaut is a Swedish band formed by Markus and Fredrik in 2006. From the beginning the sound was Stoner-oriented but has over the years merged into a blend of groovy Doom and Metal with occult tendencies, Power-doom!
We have over the years released a bunch of EP’s and 4 albums, currently recording our fifth. In between recording sessions we have had the great pleasure of touring both Sweden and Europe a couple of times as well as playing many great festivals.
Emil Kyrk – Vocals
Fredrik Jordanius – Guitars
Mikael Bielinski – Bass
Dennis Zielinski – Keyboards
Markus Johansson – Drums
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
Sweden. The metal scene is ok but the live scene is a bit dull though, especially the club scene which has changed a lot during the last 10 years or so. But we still have many big Rock/Metal festivals that survive, so the crowd is definitely still there.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
Album: The Omega. November 2017
(A new Single: Out May 24, 2019)
Who’s been your greatest influences?
Mikael: That list is long, but everything from Spiritual Beggars to Entombed via Pink Floyd back to Ghost and many more.
What first got you into music?
Dennis: All of us have been playing instruments since childhood. But why we started is probably some thing that most of us can thank our parents for.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Dennis: Writing a song or two with Toni Iommi would be cool. He’s a killer riff-machine, blending his riffs with our sound would be very exciting to hear.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
There are many but the biggest stage at Wacken would be nice. It’s like a Holy Grail, especially if you come from Europe.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A bottle containing a yellow substance labelled “Golden Shower”. (We have not opened it yet!)
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thank you and please bring a friend.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Ronnie James Dio.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Dennis: Finding new ways of expressing my self through music and sounds. Playing live is also something that gives me great pleasure. I really hate that today as a musician you’ll have to spend more time on writing emails and promoting your band than playing.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Mikael: The greed. There are too many people benefiting from the artists creativity without actually doing anything for it.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Mikael: Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
Dennis: Images and Word – Dream Theater
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl and streamed media.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Sweden Rock Festival 2015. Big crowd, perfect weather and the first time we ever played a festival of that size.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Mikael: Pilot or working abroad in some way.
Dennis: Music Video Producer
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Mikael: Geezer Butler, David Gilmour, Josh Homme , John 5, Dennis Zielinski
What’s next for the band?
Finishing up the new album and getting it out there. Of course, making a few videos etc, then doing some shows later this year.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Facebook, Spotify, Youtube, iTunes.
Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
In Sweden we call it a kick.
