Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Finnish Melodic Heavy Metal band Stargazery! Huge thanks to Guitarist/Backing Vocalist Pete Ahonen for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Pete Ahonen – Guitars & Backing Vocals. I started this band somewhere in 2005 simply because I wrote a song that imo didn’t fit to my other bands (Burning Point & Ghost Machinery) style. That song was later named to ‘How Many Miles’ 🙂
Since then we’ve released two albums, “Eye On The Sky” (2011) and “Stars Aligned” (2015). Currently we’re recording our third album “Constellation” and hopefully it is out by the end of this year. Also the new single ‘Sinners In Shadows’ will be released within a week.

How did you come up with your band name?

I think we started as Stargazer, but soon realized there are so many Stargazer’s out there and just added the Y 🙂

What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Finland and the scene seems to be ever growing and vibrant. Lots of new bands popping up and the older ones conquering the world. 🙂

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)

The latest album is “Stars Aligned” which was released in 2015, but the new single ‘Sinners In Shadows’ will be released in a week and the whole album “Constellation” within the year 2019
STARGAZERY – Sinners In Shadows – official Video (PURE LEGEND RECORDS)

Who have been your greatest influences?

80’s Metal/Hard Rock in general. Whitesnake, Dio, Yngwie Malmsteen, Def Leppard etc.

What first got you into music?

I think my biggest epiphany came when my friend’s sister was blasting Accept and suddenly I was like, what is this!? This I need more 🙂 Hai lii hai looo…‘Fast As A Shark’!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I think any of these 80’s bands out there still doing it 🙂

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken! Definitively Wacken :-). It is like THE Metal Festival in the world!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I think we haven’t received any odd stuff….yet 🙂

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for your support!

If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Hmmm there are many great musicians that have passed way too soon, but maybe Ronnie James Dio.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love creating something out of nothing, I love working in the studio and love playing on stage. Maybe not ‘hate’, but to travel hours and hours and the waiting before going on stage are a bit ‘unpleasent’.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

More money to support the smaller bands and give them a chance to shine!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

To pick just one is haaaard! Hmmm, let’s just say Accept – “Restless And Wild”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

CD’s & Vinyls. I do have few Cassettes too and I buy them from the flea-markets etc if they’re cheap :-). Downloads are not the thing for me.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I think there isn’t one single gig, but some of the highlights are definitively Sweden Rock, Tuska Festival, Jalometalli Festival etc. I enjoy every gig we do!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Very difficult question….I think I would be just “normal” family / working man, without the music 🙂

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My wife, my mom and couple good friends!

What’s next for the band?

A new video single ‘Sinners In Shadows’ will be released within a week and we continue to record our third album “Constellation”.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Youtube and Facebook mostly.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

😀 Tough! I’d say biscuit!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you very much for this great interview! I hope people love the new single / album and also purchase the Eye On The Sky vinyl ! Feel free to drop us a comment and join our facebook pages http://www.facebook.com/stargazery
