EMQ’s with CASKET ROBBERY
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview Madison, WI. Death Metal band Casket Robbery! Huge thanks to guitarist Cory Scheider for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hey, I’m Cory. I play guitar in Casket Robbery. We started this thing as a recording project around 2012 and it just grew from there on its own. Kind of an unplanned thing at the time but it kept showing potential. So we kept grinding away at it and it’s been a fun and crazy ride since!
How did you come up with your band name?
In the early days we had a couple names kicking around. Casket Robbery was mentioned and it was like, “that HAS to be the name”, luckily it wasn’t taken by any bands.
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
We are from the United States, in the Midwest region. It is really awesome out here. There are so many killer bands around that are very actively touring or playing killer shows. We love what’s happening here and being a part of it.
What is your latest release (Album, EP, Single, Video)?
We have an upcoming music video/single coming out in July that we are so stoked for! We’ve had it done for a while and now we’ve got everything set to release it. It’s a song we ran a contest for with our fans. Everyone was able to send in their best “evil laugh” and we actually ended up including every person and mixing them all together in various parts of the song! It’s super cool to be able to include our fans in this one. It’s really special to us.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Horror movies! Sick, twisted, and gore filled movies. They kind of set the tone for this band.
What first got you into music?
I actually saw an acoustic guitar player in grade school. He was playing a bunch of songs for our class and I thought, hey that would be cool to do.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I’d love to with Dave Mustaine or David Ellefson! I’m a huge Megadeth fan and that would be amazing. Actually, just being able to watch them create something would be life changing haha. I’ve been lucky to be able to meet David Ellefson and he’s such a cool guy!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I think I would have to go with Maryland Deathfest, Vegas Death fest and of course Full Terror Assault Fest would be fun to play again. There are so many awesome festivals that I can’t just choose one!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
My favourite was walking around in the dark behind a venue in South Dakota someone walked up with a big cow skull and asked if I wanted it. My biggest regret was getting rid of it because our van had this nasty smell a couple days later and we thought it was the skull haha!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thank you! That’s it. I can’t ever thank them enough. We are super close and connected with our fans.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Dimebag! I never got to see him live.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy being onstage. I think that’s what fuels me and the whole band. There are small moments I hate here and there but I wouldn’t change anything. Those moments are the ones that define who you are.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I just wish music, to the general public, was a more sought after thing. I always hear older people talk about how they’d go out every weekend to the local bar and check out music or go dancing, etc. It was THE thing to do. It seems it was a big deal, a main source of entertainment. Now, it’s less like that generally speaking.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Megadeth – “Rust In Peace”. This was a game changer for me in my guitar playing and stuck with me as an influence all these years later. Those riffs!
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Streaming! I can have all the music I want at a split second and create playlists instantly. And for bands you can have your music at ANYONE’s fingertips instantly. It’s absolutely amazing!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
There are so many memorable ones… I’ll name a few. Opening for Cannibal Corpse in our hometown, Full Terror Assault Festival, and our hometown spots are always a blast.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I’d be running a business of some kind. I have an entrepreneurial spirit.

Nergal, Randy Blythe, Blasko, Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine.
What’s next for the band?
We have a new single and music video to release in July and a bunch of Midwest shows this summer! Lots coming up! And we’re in deep into writing our second album.
