Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Lafayette, Louisiana based Warlock/Stoner Rock band Ole English! Huge thanks to them for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Our band name is Ole English, we are a warlock/stoner rock outfit from Lafayette, Louisiana. It started out by about 3/4 of the band having been in bands that had ceased. Two of us got together and started jamming and figuring out where this project was going to go and when we met our bass player and then soon after drummer it was seemingly an already well-oiled machine! We were ready. And we want(ed) it!

How did you come up with your band name?

We were at a bar and started trailing on about Olde English 40oz and decided to knock of the d and go with Ole English in an almost alcoholic-ode to how many 3/4’s of the band have survived on.

What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?

We are from the United States of America where the metal scene is steadily growing at a rapid rate. Particularly in the ecosystem we play in, with so many of these sub genres it’s just attracting that many more listeners.

What is your latest release (Album, EP, Single, Video)?

Our latest release is the single ‘Paladin’ off of our upcoming self-titled EP, which can be found on our bandcamp and other streaming platforms on August 23rd.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Black Sabbath, the Melvins, Yob, The Sword.

What first got you into music?

AC/DC man!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Refer to question 5.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Pretty much most festivals in Europe!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Some plastic doll with the eyes carved out and she handed it to me and said “this is for you”!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Your dad thinks we fucking rule!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Biggie Smalls!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Hitting the right note and lifting your gear!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Just let me pay the bills man!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

The Sword – “Age Of Winters”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl baby!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

We played a gig at Kickbutt cafe for 420 in August fest this year and we were cramped up on this tee tiny stage but it was the by far the funnest show we’ve done simply because it felt so “in the basement” I guess you could say!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Trying to figure out how to become a musician again!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Trailer Park Boys cast!

What’s next for the band?

Getting this album out on the 23rd and get some road shows under our belt. Sniff around some festivals and just keep our ear to the ground as we record new material and pump out that merch for that cream (get the money).

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We use bandcamp and we have a Facebook/Instagram handle under our name. Currently creating a website!

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I don’t know what that is, but as the name implies, it’s a cake.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Our single ‘Paladin’ is out now on streaming platforms and can be found on our bandcamp as well as a presale for the record coming out on August 23rd!
