EMQ’s with WARDRESS

Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with German 80’s Metal band Wardress! Huge thanks to them for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
We are WARDRESS from Germany. We play old school metal. Founded 1984, split 1986 and started again 2018 as I / Alex (Guitarist) found some rehearsal room recordings on cassette in my cellar. Thought why not contact our original singer, finalise what we started plus write some new songs that sound like the old shit from the early 80’s but with a fresh sound?!
How did you come up with your band name?
There is no great story behind the band’s name, we just liked the song “Wardress” so much, that we felt it should be the band`s hymn. And simply, the band’s hymn should have the same name as the band, or vice versa.
What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Germany. The Metal Scene there is great. Many international artists travel here to do live shows so we have many opportunities to see cool Metal bands live. Small clubs close one by one. I guess that’s no difference to other countries and a shit development.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
Our latest release is the digital single ‘Dark Lord’ incl. killer remixes of our tracks ‘Wardress’ and ‘Mad Raper’ – 80’s reloaded if you like!
Who have been your greatest influences?
Obviously for writing music: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Dio, Manowar, Omen, Savatage…musicians: Randy Rhoads (guitar), Cliff Burton (Bass), Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Cozy Powell (drums)!
What first got you into music?
I personally listened to Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, Eddie van Halen and Randy Rhoads. I wanted to be able to play guitar as they do, write music as they do/did, play venues as they do and have fun with bandmates, crowd….as simple as possible!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
See our main influences above – so any of those would be great!!!!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Metalheadz, Metalfest as they perfectly fit the style we play. If we think really big: Wacken or Rock in Rio – been told the crowd there is unbelievable!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A heavy wooden dead slaying rod with killer spikes and “Wardress” and all initials of the band members written on it! Scary! Caring fans offer us their girlfriends after the show haha!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Come to our concerts, buy our music, and believe in yourself and certainly not in what appears to be currently stylish or “in”!
If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
See the list of our main influences as musicians above – really hard to decide which one should be the one and only!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The moment when a concert starts and people go mad. I hate getting my gear back into the truck / car afterwards – real pain!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
They didn’t make Wardress millionaires yet.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Can’t name one, must name some more…
Judas Priest – “Unleashed In The East”
Iron Maiden – “Iron Maiden”
Metallica – “Ride The Lightning”
Dio – “Holy Diver”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl for home use, digital for to go, downloads are hard to store in the CD/Vinyl rack 😉
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Too many haha the list of bad gigs is far shorter…!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
What I do in reality plus having maximum fun being a musician in my leisure time!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Our singer said he would invite Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un, Harvey Weinstein, Vladimir Putin and his Ex-Wife (However, he himself wouldn’t show up)!
What’s next for the band?
Sell thousands of albums and play more killer concerts for our fans and new fans wherever they are…..too much cliché??
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Youtube, FB, Insta, iTunes, Deezer, Amazon Music, Google Play…

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Better ask whether “Snyder’s of Hanover” are real pretzels or junk food.
