EMQ’s with FATEFUL FINALITY

Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Weil der Stadt, Germany based Thrash Metal band Fateful Finality! Huge thanks to Guitarist/Vocalist Paddy for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, I’m Paddy, one of the two guitar playing vocalists. We are a thrash metal band that has played together since 2007 in this set-up.

How did you come up with your band name?

We actually had a kind of brainstorming to figure out a name for our band many years ago and with “Fateful Finality” we were finally satisfied. Ok, even though it maybe not the catchiest name to come up with, but we absolutely appreciate the profound and severe meaning.

What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We come from the South of Germany and aside of a quite established music industry, we are proud to have a pretty strong and faithful metal scene. According to that, we also have plenty of good metal bands around and nice festivals going on.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)

After our last record “Mankind” (Fastball-Music, 09/2017) we have recently released two brand new singles off our upcoming album “Executor” (Fastball-Music, 10/2019). Both ‘Fire And Brimstone; and ‘They Breed The Dead’ are available as streams on Spotify and as videos on YouTube!

Who have been your greatest influences?

Some of the main bands we listen to are Machine Head, Lamb of God, Testament, The Haunted, Decapitated… to name only a few bands that perhaps were part of shaping our version of Modern Thrash Metal.

What first got you into music?

Personally my mom listened to a lot of music when I was a kid. Since the main genre was country music like Johnny Cash and such, the acoustic guitar was my first choice. And as the years went by and I started making music in a band my interests and needs evolved to what I do now.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Collaborating with other bands, especially the ones we appreciate, is what we see not just as a personal goal, but as a great achievement for us as a band. And of course we would target such a collaboration with bands that influenced us and that we admire for what they do. Again speaking of the guys from Machine Head, Lamb of God, Testament, The Haunted, Decapitated… and again, just to name a few.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Since we had the honour to be part of the legendary Wacken Open Air, we now aim to experience similar breath-taking festivals like Hellfest in France, Resurrection Fest in Spain, Nova Rock in Austria, Graspop in Belgium or of course Summer Breeze, which is based just about 2 ½ hours from where we live.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

So far there haven’t been any gifts from fans as I remember, but it was quite surprising when a female fan in the front row took off her shirt and showed off during a show.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you guys for your awesome support so far! Come to see us live, tell your friends about us and let´s have the time of our lives together!

If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Lemmy Kilmister

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

For me personally it is just a stunning feeling to be on stage, playing our songs and seeing people celebrating what we do. It absolutely overwhelming to experience how people appreciating what we created ourselves. I guess the down side of being a musician is we have the things that do not relate to making music like loading after the show 😉

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I’m not sure how to realize it, but I would make it easier for talented bands (very subjective!) make a living by making their music, without being broke and burned out after only a few years.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Right now I’m very into Decapitated’s latest album “Anti Cult”, but to mention an older record, I´d say The Haunted’s “The Dead Eye”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I think every media has its place in time and in usage. So for everyday and on the road I mostly use streaming services like Spotify. CD’s are still my main go to when I want to buy merchandise at a show or when I’m driving in my car. And when I really have a lot time I like to enjoy the ceremony of putting on Vinyl or Cassettes. …so it’s quite reasonable to own the same album multiple times 😉

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Beside the great experiences in clubs, pubs, festivals and on tour, I must say the most overwhelming show from my point of view so far, was Wacken Open Air 2016.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Actually we all have normal jobs beside the band life. So I guess without a band we would go ahead with our normal office jobs and try to find another way to express our opinions and creativity.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Simply my loving wife and my band!

What’s next for the band?

Main focus is on the release of our upcoming album “Executor” (Fastball-Music, 10/2019) and the corresponding shows, merch and videos.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We mainly have our music online on Spotify, but our videos get posted all over Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.
