EMQs with Firing All Cylinders

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with California based Metal/Hard Rock band Firing All Cylinders. Huge thanks to vocalist Rix Boker for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Rix; my role in the band is lead vocals and acting like a Maniac. Firing All Cylinders started by complete accident honestly. Just started as a few angry teenagers that wanted to be heard and make a difference in the world making noise. We played a few shows and after we had our first pit it kind of just snowballed from there. A new twist on old school rock n roll has been the goal ever since.

How did you come up with your band name?

I’ve been around race cars my whole life, even raced for a season at Irwindale speedway. So when we were searching for a name to call the group I was watching Death Race and one of the main characters just said the line “Firing all cylinders”. I jumped on the phone with everyone and the rest is history.

What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

Born and raised in Southern California, United States. We have always had a very diverse scene because we are right out side of LA/Hollywood. Seems the best shows happen on the outskirts of LA for us.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)

We just released our new record “WEAPONIZED”. We are very proud of it. Jeremy Valentyne and Brandon Wolfe at Wolfe Studios did an amazing job producing it. The lyrics, riffs, beats, etc, just feel right with us.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Oh god, where do I start. We are all over the place. We love the old rock/metal the new rock/metal and everything in-between. If I had to name drop a few I’d say Ozzy, Rob Zombie, Mötley Crüe, Marilyn Manson, Primus, Metallica, Parkway Drive, Static X, ADRD, A7X and so many more!!!

What first got you into music?

Just the heavy drive and power that only rock and metal can do! It just grabbed my soul.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Rammstein or Mötley Crüe for sure!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

That’s hard one. Probably somewhere south of the United States or Germany! Rock n Rio, Rock AM Ring, Graspop, Rock on the Range, all good ones. Definitely love playing any festival.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I have not come across too many weird gifts besides sexual offers from a fan but I’ve come across some thoughtful ones. Most gifts are baked goods or home cooked meals that we are extremely appreciative of, especially when on tour. One thing that stands out is somebody drew a picture of me while we were on stage and I’ll cherish that forever.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay strong, even when the world seems to be against you. Just keeping pushing forward!

If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Lemmy, singer of Motörhead!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The creative freedom, there are no rules. Starting from a blank page and creating something from nothing is a beautiful thing. What I hate is the constant battle of the time crunches and deadlines. Art cannot be rushed.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I’m not sure what I would change about it but I feel social media has a huge impact and that has its pros and cons. Having the ability to directly reach fans is great. If we didn’t have social media most of the bands would have to personally reach out to them rather than a click of a button.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Rust In Peace”, “Appetite For Destruction”, “Astro Creep 2000”… I cannot choose just one. There have been so many great ones.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Personally, I like CD’s and Vinyl but whatever gets the music to the fans ear’s works for me.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Rock the Boat Festival at the Queen Mary in Southern California. It was out of control!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Building Haunted Houses, which I do now and have been doing since I was 6 years old!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Marilyn Manson, Ozzy, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and a Southern Preacher!

What’s next for the band?

Just going to be pushing the new record, shows and videos!

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

You can find physical copies on:

It’s also available for streaming on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/2KBcZACP390CeqIWBr6PbH

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Biscuit but dryer and not so tasteful!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Just want to thank my fans for the continuous support. It really means the world to us.
