Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Louisville, KY based Death Metal Groove band Artwork For The Blind. Huge thanks to Guitarist Sol. E. Williams for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Sol. E. Williams, Guitarist for Artwork For The Blind.

Artwork started in 2012 when members Sean Coy Curry (vocals) Mike Hoehn (bass) Chris Brackett (previous guitarist) and Larry Myers (drums) got together and decided to start a Death n Roll/Death Metal Groove type band. I started with Artwork in 2015 after Brackett stepped away for health reasons. We’ve been gigging, writing, and recording non-stop ever since.

How did you come up with your band name?

Sean came up with the name. It’s one of his plays on words. Being as music is artwork for the blind.

What country are you from and what is the Metal scene like there?

America. And it’s very over saturated. But I guess that’s a good thing, because it shows there’s still and interest in metal.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Latest thing we put out is the single ‘Donny Brook’. You can find it thru streaming serves and later this year we’ll have it on a vinyl.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Where do I start! I might catch flak for this, but early on James Hatfield and Kirk Hammett. Later on stuff like Obituary, Napalm Death, Converge, All Pigs Must Die played a big role on me musically!

What first got you into music?

I grew up in a musical home, so it was just kind of a given to be into music.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Armed for Apocalypse! Those guys are awesome, both personally and musically.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Download Festival. All true metal bands and true metal fans in one big spot.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I don’t think we get a lot of “gifts”. Smoke a lot of weed with them. We mostly give to our fans more than we receive.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay tuned, because we’re always working on the next thing.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Lemmy! That dude was awesome! I think he deserved a few more years.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I enjoy the creativity of making something from nothing. I enjoy the energy of live performances. Only thing I can say I hate is when I don’t get enough time in the day to make music.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

For the industry to stop putting so much money and effort into cookie cutter music/musicians!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

All Pigs Must Die – “God Is War”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Everything but downloads. I’m kinda old fashioned. My entire music collection is on Tapes, Vinyl, or CD’s. I still have Tapes I bought like when I was 11 years old that I still listen to. I have a huge pile of Vinyl and like two drawers full of CD’s.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Best! I can say probably the most fun was the house show we did at my place to raise money for the area homeless. Good times and good friends at that one.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

That’s horrible to even think about. Probably taking sports seriously!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Monica Bellucci, Tom Araya, Willie Nelson, Cecily Strong, Barney Greenway!

What’s next for the band?

We’re writing/recording for our next full length. Got a new video in production! Probably do a video for Donny Brook later this year. Just constantly moving forward!

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I have no idea. Probably donuts!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

We’re booking show thru the Summer and have a few festival dates we’ll be dropping soon. Keep an eye on our social media pages for those dates.
