Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Swedish ‘Action Rockers’, The Drippers. Huge thanks to bassist/vocalist Viktor for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

The band is called The Drippers and consists of Viktor, William and Niclas. I’m Viktor! I sing and play bass; William sings and plays guitar and Niclas plays drums.

How did you come up with your band name?

We were playing a round with a lot of ideas, then we had a suggestion of Honeydripper. But Robert Plant had already had a band called The Honeydrippers, so we shortened it down to The Drippers.

What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We’re from Gothenburg, Sweden. We’re really happy to be from Sweden because the rock scene here is amazing. So much talent has literally been pouring out of the country for many years, so it’s a great honour to be part of it. The bar is set really high and people always demand quality from Sweden, so we really push ourselves to deliver high quality stuff.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)

Our latest release is our debut album, “Action Rock”, which was released on the 2nd of August 2019. The music video for the album’s main single ‘Gimme The Shakes’ was released as well, and it can be seen at;

Who have been your greatest influences?

The great bands of the high energy Rock N Roll movement of the 90’s: Gluecifer, New Bomb Turks, The Hellacopters, Turbonegro etc. But also, all the classic bands that inspired that wave in the first place, like MC5, the Stooges, Radio Birdman, KISS, The Nomads etc.

What first got you into music?

I think we all started playing quite early and we found that love for dirty Rock N Roll along with the classic 70’s rock bands like KISS and Status Quo, but also older acts like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. You saw the stars, you felt the energy, and you just realized that’s what you want to do.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

So many of those bands who were on the high energy scene in the 90’s are back again, so it’s a really tough question. A collaboration with The Hellacopters would definitely give us the most attention, but you can’t always think like that. It’s either them, Gluecifer or New Bomb Turks. And we would also love to do a split with Demons!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

It would be at Sjock Festival in Belgium since that’s the main festival for our genre. It would also be a dream to play Sweden Rock Festival.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

We’re still a new band so there aren’t any spectacular fan stories just yet. Give us a year and we’ll hopefully have a good answer!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Rock on people, we love you and hope to come out and see you all on the road as soon as possible!

If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Freddie Mercury.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Playing live, we do our shows WITH the fans and not just in front of them, so we really love that. The worst part is of course the eternal hours of waiting that goes hand in hand with touring. But it also builds up the anticipation so you can explode on stage.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

We would ban the production of all records made by people who don’t like Little Richard!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

The New Bomb Turks – !!Destroy-Oh-Boy!! Debut full length by The New Bomb fucking Turks. Absolutely brilliant album, it just slays from beginning to finish. Everyone should own this album.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Downloads suck, CD sucks, cassettes are ok, and vinyl absolutely rocks. We didn’t even want to release our album on CD, but we did it for the Germans! But they’ve actually gotten more into vinyl in later years so go Germany!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

In November 2019 we played at Pustervik, a large venue in our hometown of Göteborg, Sweden. We had dreamed of playing there since we started, and now we were opening up for Hank Von Hell there. We knew we had to deliver, so we just went absolutely wild on stage and really rode that wave of adrenaline that hit’s you when you hear the roar of the crowd. We only played for 30 minutes, but we left the stage in a pool of sweat and blood. The intensity was just beyond belief, we really went into life or death mode that night. And we won.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Let’s pretend we don’t all have 9-5 jobs. Then William would probably be an NHL player. Virvel would be a beer taster at the cheapest brewery and Viktor would probably be working at a pizzeria, getting paid in food!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

The five guys in Gluecifer so we could convince them to let us open up for them, the old Fernet Branca way!

What’s next for the band?

We’ve got two songs being mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (the king of distortion) as we speak, those are gonna be on a compilation split vinyl called Demolition Derby Vol II, released by an Italian label called Retro Vox Records.

Then we’ve got a Spanish and a German tour coming up this spring, so stay tuned you action maniacs in Europe!

We’re also writing new material and hopefully we’ll record our next full-length album in the summer of 2020. Gotta stay productive and not just sit around, in these days there’s so much shit going on that you need to put some furious riffs out there so people can get off on something that’s pure.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Action rockers don’t have time for treats, we’re into horse tranquilizers and torture!! Nah it’s a biscuit. You wouldn’t slice one up, would you?!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Yeah, as a matter of fact there is. Check out our album “Action Rock”, that was released in the autumn of 2019. Make sure you spread the word about it and tell your local venue/promoter about The Drippers! You can all make a difference and be an ambassador for good music. The wave of action rock sweeping over the world needs you all to participate, you’re all essential to the movement!

Cheers and thank you!
