EMQ’s with PUSHING VERONICA
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Los Angeles, CA based Rock band, Pushing Veronica. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
We’re Pushing Veronica. Julien Silvas and Oli Litner play guitar and sing. Noah Rozansky plays bass and sings. Brady Ward plays drums. Pushing Veronica was formed when Oli and Brady decided they’d rather start a band than participate in P.E. Class. The guys united to fuck shit up as PV after a show at Brady’s Bar Mitzvah.
How did you come up with your band name?
We write about the modern teenager and what life is like growing up nowadays. Veronica is the archetype of the high school teenager being pushed around, and we’re representing her with our tunes.
What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We’re from the U.S. and it’s bangin’!
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
We recently released our newest single, “Bullshit”, and the accompanying LSD tinged music video. If you wanna see some crazy stuff go check it out.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Oli Litner: My biggest influences are early Weezer and My Chemical Romance.
Julien Silvas: My biggest influences at the moment are IDLES, PUP, and Queens of the Stone Age.
Noah Rozansky: I’m heavily influenced by Twenty One Pilots, The Wrecks, and half alive, both lyrically and musically.
Brady Ward: My biggest influences are Blink 182 and Slipknot.
What first got you into music?
All of us felt an immediate brotherhood with music after trying and failing epically at multiple sports and other hobbies. We feel so intertwined with the balls to the wall energy that drives punk music.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Betty White. Obviously!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Riot Fest sounds bonkers.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A dude gave us his sweaty hoodie in exchange for one of ours.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Get in the ballpit homie! The ballpit is the name for community, both live and virtual. People come to shows or join us online and get indoctrinated in the ballpit, where you can get lost in the music and have a great time.
If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
When Betty White dies it will be her.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
We fucking love connecting with people at shows. Loading in on a show day is infinitely worse especially in the freezing cold, but y’all make it worth it. We do hate Chad though.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
We wish there was more money in the industry, so the mainstream didn’t have to play it so safe!!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Oli Litner: “The Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance.
Julien Silvas: “Joy As An Act Of Resistance” by IDLES.
Noah Rozansky: My favourite album of all time is “Now, Not Yet” by half·alive!
Brady Ward: “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” by Blink 182.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
We like em all.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We can’t pick just one!!!!!!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Replacing Charlie’s Angels!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
We’d exclusively invite the original 5 Power Rangers.
What’s next for the band?
We’re gonna grow up making music!!!!
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
You can find everything at;
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Please don’t rehash this fight we’ve argued enough!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
We appreciate you reading about our stupidity and we hope to see you in the ballpit homie!
