EMQ’s With DISTORTED VISIONS

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Milan, Italy based Nu Metalcore band, Distorted Visions. Huge thanks to them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

We’re Distorted Visions, a Nu Metalcore band.

Our history began when Marco and Emanuele, brothers in real life (respectively vocals and guitar), decided to create a band. Then, the project was joined by Tiziano (bass guitar) and Davide (drums). At the beginning, we were a normal cover band, playing what we liked, then we decided to share our emotions through our music, we started to record some songs that then became a little EP/demo that went up on You Tube. That was only our first approach together to this beautiful and endless world: it was also the element that brought us to our first record.

How did you come up with your band name?

It was like a spark. Distorted Visions is the right ensemble of all the feelings we experienced in the past and experience every day. We wanted to explain all the negative feelings such as depression, suicide, anxiety, paranoia or alienation by the society in two words and with our name we think we found the right compromise between those things. These are all thematics we explore in our lyrics as well.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We’re from Northern Italy and we can say that the metal/rock underground scene is very active. This is also thanks to the various venues in our area that permit us to play this genre that many people think is dead. We take this very seriously because we want to make this genre great again with our friends from the other bands all around Italy!

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

After a year of hard work, tears and sweat, we’ve finally released on March 5th our first full-length “Born Dead”. You can find here:

It was anticipated by two singles called ‘Paranoia’ and ‘Harakiri’ with their respective videos.

Paranoia video:

Harakiri video:

Who have been your greatest influences?

There are many bands that have influenced our sound; maybe the most significant ones are Korn and all the nu metal wave from the 90’s, but also something heavier and softer like Fear Factory and the old HC and grunge scene.

What first got you into music?

Everyone started to play an instrument as children, guitar, piano, drums and violin. We were all children of music, we loved it and the destiny brought us together and like a family, we love it!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Our list is so long that we can fill the entire ocean, all for different motivations, but if we can decide, we choose Korn, Code Orange and Architects, just to give you a few names.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

There are so many festivals that we’d love to play at, the most famous are Download Festival, Wacken Open Air, Rock am Ring, Slam Dunk or Reading Festival: Very great places to play but for now they remain just a dream.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

There was no weird stuff, they made only beautiful stuff, like awesome drawings and art!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Guys we love you so much, all this couldn’t have been possible without you, continue to support us and the underground scene because one day we will be the main scene!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Surely Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, his death has displaced every one of us, it was a non-fading mark on our skin and in our mind.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Being an underground band, we have a lot of management and promotion work to do and this is always so difficult, but it’s worth it in the process of trying to do better day after day. Otherwise, the part we enjoy is to play what we like the most and express ourselves freely.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

It could be that you can play everything you want without any restriction and prohibition. Censorship is the worst thing in art as music is one of the most known forms of art.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Obsolete” by Fear Factory, timeless metal album, we all could listen to it 100 times a day and for us is one milestone of our genre.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

They’re all special in their own way. Even though time passes by, none of them would lose the history and the importance that they’ve made for all the generations before us. Maybe these things will have a different importance in the future, such as the vinyl that is coming back on trends and merchandising. Although we decided to make CD’s because we think that they are the immortal ones and you can find them at all our shows. If you want to support us you can do it on our Big Cartel page: https://dvofficialmerch.bigcartel.com/

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Well, we played a lot of shows in beautiful places, but the gig that has impressed us the most was the one we did at Alcatraz in Milan, where a lot of famous international bands have played, we were so honoured to be there and stunned by the stage under our feet!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

We do different stuff in our lives, some of us are studying, some of us have jobs that have nothing to do with music. Music is the passion that brings us together, we think that everyone of us in the future will work someway with it.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Jennifer Aniston seems nice 😉.

Bruce Dickinson because he was a big part of our personal and musician growth.

Phil Anselmo would an honour for us: To be on the same table of that funny badass.

Steve DiGiorgio, he is a great human being and a real metalhead!

Last but not least, for sure, Maki from Lacuna Coil because we know well his kitchen skills, only thinking about it makes us hungry… yum!

What’s next for the band?We are planning some new stuff, stay tuned on our social media!

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Good question, the name deceives you, but we would say very good biscuits with a wrong name! 😊
