EMQ’s with THE FREUDERS
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Warsaw, Poland based Post/Prog Rock band The Freuders. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
The Freuders – music between Alternative Rock, Prog Rock and Psychedelic music with heavy impact from Stoner Rock. A long time ago, almost 12 years ago, three buddies from one school met with guitars in the hallway. The rest is history…
How did you come up with your band name?
In the language of the M’bhutu tribe – da-frojders – it means a ritual in which a man who wants to take a virtuous woman as his wife should first commit ritual suicide.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Poland. The Rock Stage in Poland has been returning to the main tracks for some time. Thanks to the changes in young people’s thinking about music and the blurring of borders resulting from the pigeonholing of oneself in some subculture, the sharper playing is becoming a struggle with other genres on equal terms. A lot of work has been done by rock and around rock festivals, such as the Pol’and’Rock Festival (formerly the Woodstock Festival), which is also the very popular brand outside our country.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our last one, “Warrior” Longplay Album, was released on April 30th.
Who have been your greatest influences?
There are four of us, so it is hard to answer such a question in one sentence. Thanks to the fact that everyone has his or her own musical world, the whole creative process in The Freuders is ultimately translated. There are bands like Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers or Tides From Nebula, which combine our tastes, but there are also such gems as Dua Lipa or The Weekend.
What first got you into music?
Emotion. Sweet Emotion.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
You will find the answer to this question two questions above. The opportunity to work with such great bands is a powerful injection of knowledge and experience that cannot be replaced by anything else.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
There are a lot of such places in Poland as well, but at the top of this list is Coachella of course. California, desert and different kinds of music. Could it be better? 😊
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Fortunately, we don’t get strange things yet, although underwear after the concert in various dry conditions could be regarded as such. Women’s underwear, of course.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
“Wine is fine, but whisky is quicker”. Great quote from Ozzy needs to be honoured by the next generations!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Lemmy Kilmister
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The worst thing is to wear your own equipment. And the most exciting thing about us? It is definitely playing live concerts and the whole creative process.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Festival slots for everyone, not only the rabbit’s friends.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Californication” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Damn, everything is cool – It only depends on your need for comfort, but the vinyl’s are of course sonically most valuable.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We played some big and cool festivals in Poland – Męskie Granie Tour, Soundrive Fest or Cieszanów Rock Festival.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Salvador Dali, Dennis Rodman, Dave Navarro, Angelina Jolie and Monica Bellucci.
What’s next for the band?
Next EP, promo tour and few live sessions for Radio.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
All of them! Keep an eye on us whenever you want:
Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
No idea what this is Dude! But. did you hear about Prince Polo?
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Stay at home, stay safe and stay tuned – We’ll be back!!!
