EMQ’s with REAVEN

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with French Pop/Rock band Reaven. Huge thanks to vocalist/guitarist Romeo for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Romeo, I am the lead singer and guitarist of Reaven. We are a pop/rock band with a touch of electro sounds.

How did you come up with your band name?

After a very long time of research haha!! Reaven is a mix of the French word “rêve” (dream) and the English word “heaven” (a place where most musicians go when they play music, I guess haha). After writing almost 1000 names on the paper, we found it.

What country are you from and what is the Rock/Metal scene like there?

We are from France. About the metal scene, I guess we have a pretty nice one here, a lot of talented metal bands actually!

What is your latest release (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is our single ‘Escape’ (released 13th of May 2020) and our single ‘Hope’ (released 15th of April 2020).

Who have been your greatest influences?

For me it was The Beatles for sure, I grew up with their music. It is still an inspiration for me today! But also, the whole Woodstock period, and more recently, bands like Kings of Leon, Placebo…”

What first got you into music?

I was really young (5 years old I guess), and we had a piano in my house (my sisters were playing the piano), my family was watching the movie “Elisa”, and there was a soundtrack from Serge Gainsbourg that I heard. I went to the piano, and played the melody by ear. This was my first relationship with an instrument.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

There are so many!! From Paul McCartney to Muse, Chris Martin, Imagine Dragons…

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

The Sziget Festival maybe because it is the biggest one in Europe.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

The weirdest was actually the cutest one at the same time. A very young fan gave me a 4-leaf clover stuck on a piece of paper where it was written “I wish you luck”. Absolutely the cutest and unexpected gift I’ve ever had at the end of a show.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

First of all, that we miss them a lot, and the fact of seeing them at our shows. But be patient, as soon as this difficult time will be over, we will be back on stage!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury… Ok it was more than one!! haha.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I guess, to have a passion for living, and to be free. What I hate the most may be the industry of this work.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Everything? haha. To change the old-fashioned ways of doing things in the industry and give more importance to new independent/hard-working people instead of big old majors.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“The White Album” by The Beatles.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I always really liked CD’s and Vinyl because the item is also a piece of art, and holding it in your hands, discovering the booklet etc… is very cool.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

The best show for us was maybe during the European tour in 2018 at the Hills of Rock festival in Bulgaria. It is a rock / hard-rock / metal festival and we were kinda the only band playing pop-rock music there. We were headlining the second stage, but we were afraid that the crowd would not appreciate our music. Finally, it turned out to be a great show in front of thousands of people, the audience was incredible.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

If I wasn’t in the band, I would create companies / start-ups and write books.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My Reaven’s crew!!

What’s next for the band?

A new album is about to be released (in 2020 if everything’s ok), we are also rescheduling our European tour & US tour for 2021!!

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Everything!! Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Deezer, Bandcamp, Youtube etc…
www.facebook.com/reavenmusic/
www.twitter.com/REAVENMUSIC
www.instagram.com/reavenmusic/

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

A Cakescuit for sure haha!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Yes, we hope that you guys are all safe out there, wherever you are!! Take care!!
