EMQ’s with AMNESIS
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Asheville, North Carolina based Metal band, Amnesis. Huge thanks to Guitarist ‘Miller’ for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Amnesis. Metal! The band is comprised of members from the Asheville metal scene spanning a couple decades worth of stories we could tell or can’t speak of lol. It was formed in 2010 and has gone through a few line-up changes over the years. It is a 4 piece now but used to be 5. We like it fast, heavy and straight forward.
How did you come up with your band name?
It just kind of happened one day. We couldn’t decide and the singer popped off with it. It stuck.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
United States, Southeast. It depends on where you go. Right now, it’s pretty dead amid the Covid-19 situation, but before that there were some decent shows all over the place. Every kind of band you can think of, you can go see anywhere around the southeast if you do a bit of research and know what you’re looking for.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We recently released a “playthrough” video of sorts for ‘Abscession’, the second track title from our newest EP, “We Hate Myself”.
Who have been your greatest influences?
American Headcharge, SOAD, Mushroomhead, Nothingface, Killswitch Engage.
What first got you into music?
Listening to the radio honestly, for me
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Beni-Hana, Volumes, Issues, Knives Out, Rammstein to name a few.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Donauinselfest or Bonnaroo.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Masks, and one time a fan decorated a Christmas tree for us lol!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Live your dreams and never give up.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Playing. Connecting. As far as the hate goes, the competition aspect. Egos. The dark side of the industry in general.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Solicitation to local stations. Abolish the “buy your way to fame” model.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“The Wall” by Pink Floyd. Cliché, but it has a perfect formula that can’t be explained with words. It changed me and the way I think about playing as well as presentation.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
All of them. You should have them all and have all of them available to your fans.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
In this band, Probably Hell Yeah at the Orange Peel in Asheville NC. Don’t want to stop ever. Onward and upward!!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Working myself to death at a trade skill to get by in between playing music and adulting etc
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Hunter S. Thompson, Kurt Russell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hemingway, Alexander the Great.
What’s next for the band?
Getting through this Covid madness, writing the next EP and getting back out there to play some massive gigs once this is all over with.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Social Media Links:
www.facebook.com/hivemindsmedia/ (music video)
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
The mind doth ponder…
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Don’t dream it. Scheme it.
