EMQs with BLACK RABBIT

EMQs with BLACK RABBIT

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Apeldoorn, Netherlands based Thrash/Death Metal band, Black Rabbit. Huge thanks to drummer, Max Hendriks for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Max Hendriks – Drums

Black Rabbit started back in 2014, when Jelle and Hidde started playing guitar together. They found their own riffs and started to get the hang of it more and more. They figured it would be nice to have a complete band and teamed up with a bassist and after some time a drummer as well. After some time, a vocalist was added too, and we started playing our first few gigs. After some line-up changes, I joined the band as their drummer. Since I have a big influence on the Dutch metal-scene, I gave them the input they’d wanted all this time. Black Rabbit finally took off, and now we are starting to make a name for ourselves.

How did you come up with your band name?

Well I didn’t but Jelle and Hidde did. The band name already existed before the band. During a barbeque, Jelle and Hidde were making parodies on famous metal band. When they bumped on Black Sabbath, it immediately became Black Rabbit. The whole idea of ‘rabbit’ comes from the fact that Jelle had a black rabbit as a pet. They kept the name as a sort of screw you to the people who think that metal bands should always have brutal names.

What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

Netherlands, and the scene is alive, but let’s say that the average Dutch metalhead is static. We have a small scene with lovely people. Like everywhere, the big shows are always busy, but the small bands do not get the venue full.
