Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Leeds, UK based Metal band, Godeth. Huge thanks to guitarist Dylan for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Dylan, one of two guitarists in Godeth. We formed in 2018, and have been gigging since February 2019 and have played at venues such as The Key Club, 02 Academy Leeds, The Fenton, BOOM, 02 Institute 3 Birmingham, The Mulberry Bar and Venue etc. We also competed in the SoundWaves Music Competition 2019, which we got to the national final of, something we are pretty proud of considering it was a competition mainly focused on finding more “mainstream” acts.

How did you come up with your band name?

The original placeholder name was Snowdeth, but that was a bit shit so our bassist came up with Godeth and so we decided to use that.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Leeds, which has a good underground metal scene. Some great venues such as Boom and The Key Club, with some sick bands who in my opinion deserve a lot more attention such as Master the Crown, OND, Anarcadia, Nihilus, and Pariah (although they are technically York but I’m still counting it).

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is our single ‘Blunt’ which came out last month and was written by our singer Eddie. It also marks our first ever lyric video. This was supposed to be a proper music video but then the world went to shit which meant we had to put this idea on hold unfortunately.

Who have been your greatest influences?

For me personally Metallica are the main reason I properly got into metal (even got their Ninja star logo tattooed on the back of my leg), but also bands like Alice in Chains, Pantera, Rage Against The Machine, Death, Sepultura etc. Everyone in the band has a bunch of different influences, so we try and bring as many of them together when writing songs.

What first got you into music?

Err I will thank my Mum, Dad, and Stepdad for that, they would always play me music from a young age, and I can probably thank them for my current tastes.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Power Trip, fucking love them!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Definitely Download or Bloodstock, I’ve been to both countless times and have met some great people and friends at both, so to play either would be a dream.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Can’t say I’ve received a gift unless you count getting flashed at our Key Club gig.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

BUY OUR MERCH!!! Nah just everyone stay safe and we can’t wait to play to you all once this blows over

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Either Layne Staley or Peter Steele, but I’m going to go for Peter Steele as I would do anything to have gotten to see Type O Negative live.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Most – Coming up with a new song or hearing people sing the lyrics you wrote

Worst – When you have a great riff, but can’t find a way to work it into a song (so frustrating!!)

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Less false promises.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Alice in Chains – “Dirt”, just such a good, dark feeling album

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl’s in terms of the full package, Downloads for the ease

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our headline gig at The Key Club. We always dreamed of headlining it, and to do it so early in our “career” is something we are immensely proud of. It is also the place where me and singer Eddie met, as well as basically my entire friendship group, so it is a place that is very dear to my heart!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Being bored probably”.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Nikki Sixx, Jim Morrison, Ötzi the Iceman, Louis Theroux, and Robert De Niro

What’s next for the band?

Once the world comes back to some sort of normality, we are going to be recording and releasing an EP which we can’t wait to do, and then hopefully playing some more gigs.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Can also find our music on most major streaming sites and services

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Biscuit 100%

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

We have recently released a shit tonne of merch on Teespring, so feel free to check it out and see if there’s anything you like (can be found here: www.teespring.com/stores/godeth), and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
