Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Curitiba, Brazil based Hard Rock band Electric Mob. Huge thanks to vocalist Renan Zonta for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Renan Zonta, the lead singer. Well, long story short, it all started in late 2015 when I decided to move from my hometown (which is Ben’s too) to Curitiba and Ben (guitar) was my first and only call to start a new band. He already knew André (drums) from college and after a few auditions we found Yuri (bass).

How did you come up with your band name?

Actually, “Electric Mob” was the best among the other shitty names we came up with, so here we are, hahaha!

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We’re from Curitiba, Brazil. The rock scene here is full of great bands, in most various types of rock and metal. One thing that shows the city’s potential is that all four Brazilian acts on Frontiers Music (Electric Mob, Landfall, Semblant and Sculptor) are from the same city. How awesome is that?

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We just released our first album, “Discharge”, on Frontiers Music srl.

‘Far Off’ (Official Music Video)

Who have been your greatest influences?

We are heavily influenced by A LOT of sounds and eras. I’m more into the 70’s blues rock and early metal, Ben is the 80’s guy in the band, André and Yuri are more into 90’s alternative rock and 00’s indie rock, and we all manage all of that to build our sound.

What first got you into music?

My dad’s vinyl collection. When I first heard Motörhead’s “Bomber” my ears melted, and I was like four years old. After that, I got into Iron Maiden and the rest is history.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Talking about new bands (not that fresh but whatever), maybe Rival Sons. I love all the records and Jay’s a beast when it comes to singing and writing.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Download, Hellfest and Wacken. I dream about just being there watching since I was a kid and never got the chance to travel to those festivals. Be one of the acts would be mind-blowing.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Ben has a painting where he’s dressed like Batman holding a Gibson Les Paul. You can’t get weirder than that, hahahaha!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Just continue to support us as you do. We are nothing without you and this is just the beginning.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Kurt Cobain. I think he had a lot to do artistically.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Being on stage is the best thing ever. There’s nothing I hate about my job because I have the greatest one, hahaha!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

The canned processed type of artist who doesn’t give anything to people but bad music and fake material. And I’m not saying this because I’m in a rock band. Everybody knows we have many shitty rock bands out there too.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Free’s “Fire And Water”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I love them all. I mean, I still get vinyl, cassettes and CD’s, but that is my collection. That stays in my house. The fact that you can listen to EVERYTHING with your cell phone and a couple of apps is awesome! Now we can absorb music everywhere.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

São Paulo, 2018. The first time we did our thing with the place packed of people singing our songs. Best time ever.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Probably nothing. I don’t know how to do anything else.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

When it comes to party, only two, but they would have to come from the dead: Bon Scott and Freddie Mercury.

What’s next for the band?

Now we’re about to release the last single from the album. In the meantime, we’re discussing details to make a live stream with the whole band to play the album. Besides that, we are planning some other great stuff we can’t say right now. Sadly, the only way to be with our fans right now is on the screen, but we’ll make it. Together.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Mostly Instagram, Facebook and our website.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Biscuit man, hahaha!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I just wanna thank you guys and our fans for all the support. We’re in the beginning of the journey, but it’s been great so far. We love you!
