EMQ’s with REBEL RIOT

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Riga, Latvia based Heavy Rock/Metal band Rebel Riot. Huge thanks to vocalist/rhythm guitarist Bob Concrete for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name’s Bob Concrete, I’m the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in REBEL RIOT.

How did you come up with your band name?

We first went with Rebel Yell, but it seemed too associated with Billy Idol, we liked the Rebel part, so we changed the other to Riot, making it as a word play.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Latvia, a rather small country next to the Baltic sea with rich folkloric traditions. Therefore, the biggest metal band here play pagan/folk metal. Sure, there are a few other good heavy rock and metal bands of different subgenres, but all in all the underground scene is not that big, we almost all know each other here.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We just released a new single ‘Pedal To The Metal’ from an upcoming album, simultaneously also a music video for that track. Check it out on our Youtube channel!

Who have been your greatest influences?

AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Trouble, Pantera, Accept – just to name a few.

What first got you into music?

I sang in different ensembles and choirs as a kid. Played a bit on the xylophone and recorder. Then picked up classical guitar around the age of 12. Rock music was also always there mostly thanks to my older brother.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Probably none. All the good ones are starting to die out.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken, Brutal Assault – those are some of the best festivals in Europe/World. But there sure are cool smaller fests around which are fun to play.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

A sack of candies, a Halloween pumpkin carved with our logo.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Just enjoy our music and show it to everyone else you know! Haha! What else could we ask?!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Lemmy.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Writing a great song is the best feeling! Sometimes playing it to an empty venue really sucks.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

It’s hard to say, everything is so interconnected. But sure, there’s too much shitty mainstream music out there.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Megadeth – “Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

All of it! It’s all essential of letting the music find you.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Opening for Accept in Riga, and a couple of years ago in Kilkim Žaibu festival (Lithuania).

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Not sure, maybe I’d be a mad scientist, or into some other form of arts. I used to be a pro dancer and also a swimmer. But that was another era for me.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My bandmates and 2 of some closest friends.

What’s next for the band?

More singles coming out soon in 2020.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
