EMQ’s with NUCLEAR DASH

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil based Thrash Metal band, Nuclear Dash. Huge thanks to vocalist/rhythm guitarist Miguel Leujim for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Miguel. I play rhythm guitar and I am singer in Nuclear Dash. Well, the story begins in 2014, when I met this guy called Guilherme, at a Local Anime Event, we spent the day together, then I added him on Facebook. We weren’t really into metal or music at the time, so nothing really happened. A year later, I got excited about making a metal band, I was so into Venom at the time. They were a huge influence to me musically (and still are). Back in the day, Guilherme was always posting photos of his guitar on Facebook, he was the only musician that I knew, so… we started the project

How did you come up with your band name?

The name of the band came from a Sodom song called “Nuclear Winter”. I was going to translate the name for Portuguese, calling it “Inverno Nuclear”, but Guilherme wanted an English name back in the day, so we found “Nuclear Dash” to be perfect, it has something special in it.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Distrito Federal, capital of Brazil, well known here as “Capital of Rock” because of the huge “post-punk” scene back in the 80’s. Well, I think that we have so much good music here, a lot of great musicians too, lots of thrash metal and crossover bands. All weekends you will have to choose between 2 or 3 bands doing shows in different places at the same time, it’s beautiful in a certain way to see it, we are keeping the spirit alive around here.

On the other hand, we have some trouble about competition here. It’s nice to see lots of bands working but, some bands really don’t support each other and it’s really a shame, we could reach higher grounds if the scene were more united. But I think that’s a major problem in the whole metal scene around the world. We gotta support newcomers at the scene, not keep them away! This is not about competition.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

It was a demo called “After the Atomic Devastation…” released in 2017.

“After The Atomic Devastation…” (Full Demo)

Who have been your greatest influences?

At the beginning of Nuclear Dash, we really hadn’t defined influences, we wanted to write songs that we liked, and the result was really a mess because we were so different from each other hahaha. Today, our influences in the genre are more about the Thrash, we like Dark Angel, Slayer, Destruction, Razor, Sepultura, etc.

We kept the same mindset, only writing songs that we like, because in the end, we want to sound as natural as possible. We want to stay true to our music and ourselves.

What first got you into music?

Music is like a drug for me, it just keeps me addicted, it’s a passion for me and for all of us, it couldn’t be different.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I would like to collaborate with our friends from Distrito Federal, actually. Bands like Deathrazer, Evil Corpse, Transtorno Nuclear etc. Of course, it would be awesome to collab with the most expressive bands in Brazil today like Violator, Surra, D.F.C, Project46 etc.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken Festival. It’s the biggest metal fest in the whole world, we love it. Rock in Rio would be so great too, someday…who knows?

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

We have actually never received a strange gift from a fan! hahaha

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I don’t like to call them fans, they are more like friends. We are really thankful to every one of them, for the huge support at this strange time that we are living in.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Lemmy or Cliff. They are fucking legends.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

We love playing live, and we hate to not be able to do this right now…

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

We would destroy POP MUSIC!!!!!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Pedro P.(Guitars): Razor – “Violent Restitution”

Pedro H. (Bass): Angra – “Temple of Shadows”

Victor (Drums): Persefone – “Spiritual Migration”

Miguel (Vocals/Rhythm): Dorsal Atlântica – “Antes do Fim”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Live music is always better

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our last show was the best we ever did, to be fair, every night we are trying to get better as a live band.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I don’t really know because, what really matters is that we are musicians and that’s what we like.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Chuck Schuldiner, Lemmy, Cliff and André Matos.

What’s next for the band?

We released a demo at the beginning of September, called “Which End I$ Near”, with has some music off our new LP coming in 2021.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
