EMQ’s with BS BONE

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Sant’Elia a Pianisi, Italy based Alternative Hard Rock/Stoner band, BS BONE. Huge thanks to vocalist/bassist Vyper for taking part!

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Vyper from BS BONE, a three-members line-up. We started to play together in the summer 2017. We play an Alternative Hard Rock with several other influences. I play bass guitar and I’m also the vocalist of the band.

How did you come up with your band name?

First of all, “BS” stands for Bandsaw…So we decided to choose Bone Bandsaw, a tool that gives the idea about anything we want….But then we switched words and we opted for “BS Bone”…so anyway it’s something nice!

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We’re based in Italy The situation is not the best. The live music venues that allow you to play unreleased songs are less and less, especially genres like hard rock and metal. Not to mention the fact that we live in the centre-south of Italy (Molise)…And it is useless to add that this global pandemic made things worse. But in spite of everything there are so many valid bands.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

In October 2019 we released our self-produced Demo, called “Inside Insanity”. There are four killin’ tracks who talk about madness, anger, insanity, slice of life; for example, ‘Dysfunctional Souls’ (#3) speaks about the pain of feeling inadequate, useless; speaks about the presumption and the failure.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Duff McKagan, Nikki Sixx and Rachel Bolan, three bassists and songwriters with some consistency of their sound. They mostly play bass with a pick, a style/technique that comes from punk rock bands. I love this sound, ‘cause pick gives you the tone that fits the style. In my opinion there’s no “right way” to play the bass. As long as you are getting the sound you honestly want and it’s not out of stubbornness or laziness, you’ve chosen the “right” method: Choose the sound not the technique.

What first got you into music?

Well, after watching on DVD (borrowed from a friend) a concert of Guns called “Live from The Ritz (1988)”: I Think this is what they call “spark”.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

A collaboration with Hardcore Superstar that would be great! I love ’em to bits and if that could happen, that would be a dream come true!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I can say without hesitation Hellfest in France, Rock am Ring and Wacken in Germany, Download in UK and Sweden Rock Festival. Each of them have their own peculiarities but are attended by people who live and breathe rock every single second!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

The choice is hard, but I’d take back Chris Cornell, a very complete artist and a very big source of inspiration.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I hate the slogan “everything at once”, where music is meant like a fuckin’ grinder; single is preferred over album. No, this cannot stand!

There are few record labels willing to believe and produce compared to what happened in the past. It is useless to deny that the record market is going in another direction … rap, hip-hop, trap music …. but the Rocker gives a sh*t and goes straight on his way, despite everything…I hope so.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Appetite For Destruction” (1987) – Guns N’ Roses

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I’m already a structural engineer with rock running through my veins.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

I would like to invite Ozzy Osbourne, Duff McKagan, Nikki Sixx, Matthew Shadows and Lita Ford.

What’s next for the band?

We’re putting together some stuff for our first full album. We have composed more than twelve songs up to now. We’d like to begin pre-production as soon as possible. We wanna play live hoping that the Covid situation it gets better.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

A name I’ve never heard before hahahahaha…they have to be good!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

What we call “Rock” is not simple music: it’s salvation, breakout…’cause after all:

We’re nothing more than 99 Lions in a cage!
