EMQ’s with ESHTADUR

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Pereira, Colombia based Melodic Death/Black Metal band Eshtadur. Huge thanks to vocalist/guitarist Jorg August for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hello to all the followers of Ever Metal, my name is Jorg, leader of the band Eshtadur.

This band has been active since 2005, we passed thru different variations, I did it myself for a long time as a solo project, following styles like Ihsahn, Galder of Dimmu Borgir, the band has 2 EP’s and 4 albums, the latest one, is my favourite.

How did you come up with your band name?

Back in the earliest 90’s there was an author who mentioned the seven kind of rebellion, giving it a name in Greek, Eshtadur, means The rebellion of angels.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

I am from Pereira, it is a tropical city, and land of many coffee plantations, many brutal bands around, we like extreme metal over here, Thrash metal, I am not very much of a fan, but that´s what people listen to here.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is “From The Abyss”, which I consider my favourite one, it´s our new album.

‘The Fall’ (Official Lyric & Concept Audio)

Who have been your greatest influences?

I would have to talk about Heavy metal, Metallica, Rainbow and there was a band in my country named Kraken, then I would have to mention also, Dimmu Borgir and bands like Graveworm, Hypocrisy.

What first got you into music?

I was a kid when I wanted to play the drums, because I saw several videos of bands playing, Drums got my full attention, then at the age of 12 I started some lessons, but I think, heavy metal, got me into music.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I would die If I can record something together with Ihsahn. That would be amazing.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Well, I would have to say “Wacken”, I saw pictures of that fest when I was young, then I saw some videos, but then, when we toured Europe in 2018 we landed in Hamburg, and we spent several days in there, their culture, and everything, for all ages, what Wacken brings to there, is incredible.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I don´t receive many things actually haha, normally fans are asking for something and not backwards, but I remember once, we were drinking in some place, one of the guys gave me a tiny cup, a shot cup for drinking, very cool.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Hey guys, I am still trying to do the same things that I did with the first album, just trying it better, with more progress, so maybe if it sounds different than before, please don´t be mad, it is still me, Eshtadur.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

I will bring Ronnie James Dio, no discussion.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I enjoy a lot of changes in music, textures, and different proposals from the world around, folk, sounds, cultures, I love that unique aspect in each genre of music, and I don´t like to say this, but, I hate those who do music with no compromise, they are a very uncomfortable obstacle sometimes,

I take music too seriously, maybe, however, I can´t help being mad with taking this for fun (but pretending is serious).

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

We should be linked directly with all Schools, Theatres, Universities, supporting culture development, and giving music its own place, not as an entertainment, but as a need, as an absolute requirement for human education.

I would also ask for a respectful amount at earnings on those who write great songs.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

One of my favourite albums, “Rescue You” by Joe Lynn Turner.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I had tapes, I liked them very much, I enjoy CD’s and I bought a lot of albums on that format! I started buying Vinyl years ago, and I have a collection, of course, I have Joe Lynn Turner and other artists.

I think downloads are poor quality, not for the sound, but for the meaning. I think a CD is well balanced, it is still good quality and you have to buy it somewhere.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I played a perfect performance in Mexico, it was a very big bar in Morelia, wonderful night, people having fun, it was cool.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I think I would be a corpse, buried already. I played soccer, but I was bad haha.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Oh no, I don´t like parties, I’d rather be alone, maybe 2 or 3 people…I would invite Jim Carrey, Steve Vai, maybe.

What’s next for the band?

We are planning to play the new album live, no streaming, no videos, we want to tour somewhere, don´t care if we become zombies.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We use Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the others
www.linktr.ee/Eshtadur

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Emmmm, I have never tried them, but I love chocolate, it’s a biscuit.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thanks for reaching out, enjoy your things on your own and with anyone worthy, support heavy metal, and support new bands.
