Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Los Angeles, California based Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band, Sea Of Snakes. Huge thanks to guitarist, Jim McCloskey for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Jim McCloskey – guitar. The band started from myself (Motorsickle) and Jeff Murray (The Shrine) having jam sessions for fun. Before we knew it songs started taking form, and we decided to bring in another friend (Tracy Steiger) to sing, and Mick on bass. We felt we had a special kind of chemistry and we should actually make a band out of it, and record.

How did you come up with your band name?

Im a huge fan of the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. A Perfect Circle’s first album was “Mer de Nome” which translates from French to “Sea of Names”. I was thinking about that album one day, and the name Sea Of Snakes just came to mind.

What country are you from and what is the rock/metal scene like there?

We are from Los Angeles, California in the United States.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our “World On Fire” EP is set to release on 2nd April 2021.

‘Let The Fire Burn (Official Video)’

Who have been your greatest influences?

Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Metal Church, Mötley Crüe, Guns ‘n Roses, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Pantera.

What first got you into music?

When I was little, MTV was in its heyday. I absolutely loved Headbangers Ball. That was where I would see a lot of bands that I would never hear on the radio. It was great!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Tony Iommi is the riff master! He is The Godfather of metal riffs. It would be an honour to collaborate with him.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Castle Donington or I think nowadays it’s called Download Festival. A lot of musical history there.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Always expect us to be loud, and heavy, and pissed off!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Dimebag Darrell. It was a shame how his life was cut short. He deserves it the most, and he was one bad ass motherfucker!!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love being creative and writing. But most I enjoy making music that people like to listen to. I hate flaky musicians, who make music without putting their heart into it.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would bring back a 24-hour music tv channel that’s on mainstream cable. Not necessarily MTV, but something similar, in the way where all bands, new and old, had a place to show videos of current music.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Black Sabbath- “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

That’s kinda personal preference. I really like having something tangible to hold and look at. I guess im old school. Lately I really like vinyl.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I don’t know – any gig where people really get into your music is a good gig.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Well, im definitely not an office type guy, so I’d probably be doing something outside, or maybe even nothing at all. I can’t imagine not being a musician.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

I’d invite the five original members of Guns ‘n Roses, because I think magic happens when all five of those guys get into the same room.

What’s next for the band?

Jim Morrison said it best: “The future is uncertain, and the end is always near.”

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Bandcamp, Facebook, Metal Assault records, Instagram, etc…the usuals.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

What the hell is a Jaffa cake?!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Look for our release of “World On Fire” on 2nd April 2021 through Metal Assault Records!
