EMQ’s with TEMTRIS
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Sydney, Australia based Heavy Metal band, Temtris. Huge thanks to vocalist, Genevieve Rodda, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hi, my name is Genevieve Rodda and I am the vocalist for Australian metal band Temtris.
Temtris started in 2000 and has released 5 albums to date. Our 6th album will be released in April 2021.
How did you come up with your band name?
We were after a name that had a female fronted sound to it. Temtris was chosen.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are based in Sydney, Australia. The scene here is close and is stronger than ever after getting through Covid restrictions.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest release will be our 6th Album “Ritual Warfare”. A lyric video for the song ‘Ritual Warfare’ was released on 3rd April.
‘Ritual Warfare’ (Lyric Video)
‘Forever’ (Official Video)
Who have been your greatest influences?
Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate and Doro Pesch are my main influences, but I love many more singers.
What first got you into music?
My Parents always played music at home, but I first learnt guitar at age 12, then had singing lessons at 13 years old. I joined my first band at 14 and played my first show not long after.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Would love to work with Eric AK from Flotsam And Jetsam. One of my Favourite bands.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Would love to play 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise as it looks like a lot of fun where you can get up close with the fans. Wacken is just one festival I think every band dreams of playing.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I was sent 2 bottles of vodka by a fan for my birthday, I was not expecting this at all. But it is my favourite drink, so I was not complaining.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Come and say hello at shows and join our metal family.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
I would love to see Dio sing live. Missed that opportunity and it would be amazing to experience that if possible. I would also love to see Chuck Schuldiner from Death play live too. Love their sound.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Creating music people can enjoy and connect to is amazing. But I do wish it was not so stressful and expensive releasing albums, lol.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
That musicians are paid their worth for the music they create. The streaming platforms are not looking after the creators. Something has to give.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“The Sound Of Perseverance” by Death and their song, ‘Voice Of The Soul’ is my favourite.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I collect CD’s still, but Vinyl is cool too. Downloads are handy but the sound is not great.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Hard question to answer as we have supported so many great touring bands, but Metal Church was probably our most fun.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I actually have a day job in a special needs school as a Teachers Aide. A tough job but rewarding.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
If I could have anyone, I’d have Bruce Dickinson, Doro Pesch , Rob Halford, Ralf Scheepers and Todd la Torre.
What’s next for the band?
We will release “Ritual Warfare” and tour Australia. Then hopefully get overseas if the flights open back up and we can tour out of Australia.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
We have Facebook, Instagram, Website and a Temtris YouTube channel.
We also have our music on Apple iTunes and Spotify.
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Never eaten one but sounds like a cake to me lol.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks for the interview. Hope you can check out our new tunes and enjoy the album.
Stay safe and horns up \m/
