EMQ’s with TERRORENTIAL
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Sydney, Australia based, Thrash/Death Metal band, Terrorential. Huge thanks to vocalist & guitarist Larry Papura, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Larry, I play the guitar and do the vocals. The band started out with me and Tristan the drummer in the early 2000’s when we just got together to jam out some covers and sink down some beers. After a few years we decided to start writing out own material and in 2010 we starting playing gigs and now here we are.
How did you come up with your band name?
Well, we used to be called Neighbourhood Noize but I think that was already taken, so we changed it to Torrential Noize but we wanted something a bit more Metal so taking the word Torrential we mixed in Terror and we ended up with Terrorential. At first, we weren’t sure and we wrote down other possible names but, in the end, Terrorential just seemed to be the one that sounded and worked best.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Sydney, Australia. The local metal scene here is small to be honest.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest release is “Visions” our debut album.
‘Unleash’ (Lyric Video)
Who have been your greatest influences?
Ah too many to mention!
What first got you into music?
To be honest I don’t really know, I just know I like it. I’ve always been into music one way or another from early on. I used to play keyboard as a kid before I moved on to the guitar!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Oh, that’s a good question, I don’t know, the one that lets me collaborate, I guess!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Wacken, do I have to explain why haha!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Nothing weird yet haha. Usually, I get a beer or a whiskey but that’s about it.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Does it have to be only one?
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The best thing that I enjoy is writing original material and seeing people get into it.
I don’t think there is anything I hate about being a Musician, even the shit stuff is not too bad to deal with haha!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Get rid of that commercial bullshit they call “music”!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Hmmm, I’d say maybe “Ride The Lightning”…I always go back to the moment in time when I first heard that record.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I personally think that Vinyl is best for analog recorded stuff, It does have a warmer, more real sound to it.
CD’s are great, clear, loud, less prone to scratches and you can just skip straight to the song you want to hear, my main listening format.
Downloads are good if they are high quality WAV files, MP3’s are inferior in quality!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The gig I did last month!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Probably a video game designer or something like that lol
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
I don’t do dinner parties.
What’s next for the band?
A 2nd album, we have some songs already in the works.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
The usual, F.B, Bandcamp, Reverbnation etc.
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
WTF are Jaffa cakes hahaha!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Cheers and Beers!
