EMQ’s with ODYRMOS

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Greek Black/Synth/Ambient Metal project, Odyrmos. Huge thanks to main man, Andrew Tsekrekos, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Andrew Tsekrekos and I am the man behind the project Odyrmos. Everything started back in 2020 as a one man band, dungeon synth/dark ambient project with our EP “Eternal Sleep”. After that I decided to try a new approach with a more black metal feeling. I am responsible for all recordings and with the help of Alan Brucke, with the vocals, we managed to release our debut full length album “For The Brightest Light”.

How did you come up with your band name?

Odyrmos mean something like great lament in the Greek language. I wanted a word able to describe the feelings our music emits to the listener and I believe this is a very strong word!

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We come from Greece and the metal scene here is stronger than ever with some great releases from bands of every metal style. Our past as a scene helps a lot and nowadays many Greek metal bands have albums worth checking out.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our album “For The Brightest Light” will be released on June 22nd by BMC Productions in digipack cd and tape formats. Until then, we released a lyric video for the song ‘Ode To The Forgotten’ and we invite everyone to check it out.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Old Greek black metal scene and bands like Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord, Elysian Fields etc and all kind of melancholic music, from My Dying Bride and Saturnus to Dead Can Dance and Diary of Dreams.

What first got you into music?

If you mean playing music then it’s the need to express my feelings through it. If you mean listening to music then it’s Metallica, hehehe!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

Savatage and Jon Oliva. They have nothing to do with our style of music but Jon is a mastermind and i believe it would be a great experience collaborating with him.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

To be honest i prefer live shows in small venues rather than festivals. Smaller crowd but more passionate.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

$1 donation through our Bandcamp page.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Enjoy the music you like and don’t put labels to bands.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Criss Oliva, the most sensational guitarist ever in my opinion.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

It’s a great pleasure and honour when you records do something that expresses you as a person and in the process, you see other people feel the same way about it. What I hate is I can’t play as loud as I want in my home, two baby girls here seem not to like my music hehehe!!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Keep the underground spirit alive!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Savatage – “Streets: A Rock Opera”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

My vote goes on CD.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

We haven’t played any live shows yet and i don’t think this will change in the future.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I am also a cafe bar owner. This is my main job.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Jon Oliva, Ronaldinho, Shakira, Michael Jordan and Fenriz. Sounds interesting right?

What’s next for the band?

After the release of “For The Brightest Light” we will start looking for a new singer as Alan will no longer be able to sing for Odyrmos. Some songs for a new album have already been recorded and we will move into finishing that.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

www.facebook.com/odyrmos
www.odyrmos.bandcamp.com

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I have no idea what Jaffa Cakes are, hehehe.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I would like to thank you for your interest in Odyrmos and invite everyone to give a listen to our album and share their opinion with us. Greetings from Greece!
