EMQ’s with HIT ‘N’ MIZZ

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Brisbane, Australia based Hard Rock band, Hit ‘N’ Mizz. Huge thanks to vocalist/guitarist Mizzie Maxx for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Mizzie Maxx, I play vocals and guitar.

I started the band late in 2018 after I moved up from Tasmania. I started going out to gigs nearly every night I could and basically stole a bunch of guys from different bands I’d either played with before or found on a good night out. I threw them in a rehearsal room together and basically showed them a song I wrote and it all seemed to just fall into place. Been going strong since then and will continue to keep rocking forever.

How did you come up with your band name?

My mum did…Rock on?? haha

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Brisbane, Australia.

The Metal/Rock scene was awesome before Covid. You could pretty much go to a gig any night of the week. It’s starting to kick back in which is uber awesome and venues are booked out for months now. If you’re in the Rock/Metal scene, your part of some cool ass family. Everyone somehow knows everyone.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Latest Release was the EP “ACTION” which a film clip to the feature song ‘Want Me’ came soon after. We will be looking at doing another film clip in the near future.

‘Want Me’ (Official Video)

‘Devils Ganna Bring You Down’ (Audio)

Who have been your greatest influences?

Chrissy Amphlett for sure. She was just cool in everyway and loved her stage presence.

David Lee Roth would be up there as well. No explanation needed for that babe. We all know why.

What first got you into music?

When I was 2 my dad had a record player downstairs in the garage that he would play when he was working. I fell in love with The Ramones Rock ‘n’ Roll radio and ever since then basically grew up in front of the stereo with headphones on listen to whatever I could find.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

I personally love playing with Snake Bite Whisky as they’ve helped the band and me a lot since starting and as we’re good mates, the gig nights are always hella awesome and memorable (kind of don’t remember them haha)

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Woodstock would’ve been awesome, but any HRH Show or event overseas would be good in my eyes at the moment.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

My favourite is when I get drawings of myself as fan art. Some are terrifying and make me self-conscious for a week. I don’t actually look like that do I? feck!!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Love ya work in supporting your local rock music, keep it coming so we can all keep going.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Easy, Chrissy Amphlett. Would love to see her live and tour with her and the band.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

100% Performing on stage and writing music. You can basically do whatever you can be and think of.

I hate how it’s one of the hardest career choices. It’s hard to make money from it and you get some slamage that’s for sure.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would love for it to go back to the 70’s/80’s/90’s where live music was awesome and “rock stars” were talented.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Right now, it would be The Darkness “Easter Is Cancelled”. Sah good!

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl as they not only look sick, but also add an unusual essence to the sound. Especially if you own an old record player.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our EP launch was pretty sweet. Had heaps of fans come and support us. Surprised me a little a bit. Feeling the love.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Holly crap, no clue…Maybe be playing some kind of extreme sport or try my luck at acting?

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

I don’t like to sit down and eat while I’m partying but if I must…
David Lee Roth
Ted Nugent
Chrissy Amphlett
Tommy Lee
Blackie Lawless
Ooooh The Energy!

What’s next for the band?

Well, we have just signed a contract with Black-Roos Entertainment and are currently organising Aus tour and overseas dates once Covid calms down. Also making future goals and plans for an album and new video release.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

At the moment we mostly use Facebook and I use Ditto music for platform music release. Looking into building ourselves up on other popular platforms.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I thought it was a mini pancake.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thanks for the interview it’s very much appreciated. Would love for people to check out me and the boys.

Cheers,

Mizzie Maxx
