Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQ’s interview, with Prague, Czech Republic EDM-Rock band, Blitz Union. Huge thanks to them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Blitz Union is a visionary EDM-Rock band which highlights alarming issues that humanity faces in today’s uncertain world, along with a sense of urgency, whilst providing hope and inspiration. We started recording and releasing music in 2019. However, the story of Blitz Union began way earlier. In fact, even during the time our parents were teenagers. After a few miraculous discoveries, signs, and messages of a mysterious entity called “Mr. Blitz” started to arise. We are still learning about what it means, and going to reveal first hints how those events influenced our music together with our debut album release. There will be a lot to be found out by fans around Blitz Union and our story.

How did you come up with your band name?

The first part of the name “Blitz” is again directly connected to the overall story of Blitz Union. We try to express and deliver the visions of “Mr. Blitz”, in the most accurate form we can. That’s why we’ve decided to have ‘Blitz’ as part of our band name.

The second part of the name ‘Union’ speaks for itself. Besides doing music— we are trying to create an experience, a movement, and a natural union. A group of like-minded people who care about the whole, who care about life in general, and do not focus exclusively on their personal profit.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Prague, Czech Republic. The Metal/Rock scene is quite diverse here. Hundreds, or even thousands of new rock bands are founded in CZ every year. One of the biggest Czech bands of all time is actually a rock band.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We released a new single & video, ‘Candidate’, from our upcoming album, “Absolution”, last on October 22nd. The album itself is going to be released on November 26th. We really recommend getting a physical copy, as you get to hear new songs earlier than the streaming release. Besides, you will find first hints of Blitz Union’s so far secret history.

Who have been your greatest influences?

I think it has been the nu-metal/rock bands which were popular around the year 2000. We really loved bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne during our teenage days.

What first got you into music?

I think our parents, who passed on the love of music to us. I have loved listening to music since my early childhood and I’ve always dreamed of becoming a musician.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

Honestly, I do not know right now. Nor do I have a specific name in my mind, as I am open to collaborate with anyone where it would make sense, and where the collaboration would give both parties the chance to benefit in a way.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

The first festival which popped into my head is “Rock am Ring”. I think Blitz Union would work well there.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

We haven’t received anything weird/crazy yet. Just a couple of paintings and collages, for which we are super grateful.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Especially, those who are not afraid to ask themselves unpleasant questions, and who have the courage to face their personal/internal, but also external problems – are more than welcome in our Union, and can contact us directly at any time and contribute their knowledge and experience.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I think the fact of making music itself. I enjoy the freedom during the creation process. And what do I hate? I hate not performing live as much as I would have liked to for the last two years. *Laughter*

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Probably what I would like it to change in any other industry as well – ‘Investing’ in conscious long-term cooperations, looking at the development of quality, potential, and trust, instead of “whom I could use to make the biggest profit in the shortest possible time “.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Korn – “Korn”
Stone Sour – “Audio Secrecy”
Twin Peaks – “OST”
Korn – “Untitled”
Ozzy Osbourne – “Ozzmosis”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Lately, I personally prefer vinyls. I like the way the sound waves, and also that you cannot skip tracks so easily there.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I think it was the show with the well-known German band “Oomph!” in Braunschweig in the beginning of 2019 before the Covid situation appeared.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I would be a masseur for example. Who knows!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Mahatma Gandhi, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Jack Nicholson, Till Lindemann – The conversation around the dinner table would be lively for sure.

What’s next for the band?

We are currently focusing all our energy on our debut album release. The album, “Absolution”, is going to be released on November 26. We can’t wait to achieve this first big milestone of our Union, and we hope our followers will enjoy the whole outcome the same way we do. And then? Present our album live as much as possible!
