EMQ’s With MISTY ROUTE
Hi Everyone! Welcome to another EMQ’s Interview, this time with Greek Alternative Metal band, Misty Route. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
We are Misty Route, and we play alternative metal. The band was formed in 2019, in Athens, Greece. Following a first release of 3 demo songs in 2020, we are now officially launching on 26/12/2021 our debut full-length album entitled “Without A Trace”.
How did you come up with your band name?
Typical brainstorming and filtering ideas until one made the click. We wanted the name to reflect the character of our music.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We come from Athens, Greece. Our country might not be a leader in the global Metal/Rock scene, yet it has many passionate fans. That being said, we have had the luck to enjoy many top names of the scene during music festvals here from time to time. One truly positive sign that makes us optimistic for the future, is that especially during the recent years more and more vastly talented local bands, like Rotting Christ, Villagers of Ioannina City, 1000mods, Planet of Zeus, Nightstalker, Naxatras or Mother of Millions, have found the worldwide recognition they have worked for and truly deserve.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our debut full-length album entitled “Without A Trace” is getting officially released on 26/12/2021 and has been available for pre-order since 21/11/2021.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Too many to list, and vastly varying. To name a few Metallica, Opeth, Godsmack, Deftones, Tool and Pink Floyd.
What first got you into music?
Our need to express our feelings and leave our footprint in history forever.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
One or more of our influences mentioned above would be a wild dream. Of course, we would be more than pleased and honoured to collaborate with any of the aforementioned Greek bands that are steamy hot right now.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Book us for Hellfest or Wacken and we are bringing the beers!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Seems that our fans have not yet unveiled all their weirdness to us …
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Stay with us until the end of the route and let’s walk it together!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
It is unfair for so many others, but the one who started it all, the mighty James Ronnie Dio.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Being able to express yourself and potentially inspire others is a huge thing. There is no better feeling than giving people something they can relate to. We play music because we love everything around it, there is nothing to hate for.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Maybe try to give smaller but really talented musicians and bands a bigger voice, and reduce the dependence of music from the trends to allow more uniqueness.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Its almost impossible to pick one. Let’s agree that “The Dark Side Of The Moon” by Pink Floyd was an influential one.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
In terms of quality and ease of use, downloads are the future. However, touching a vinyl album has an emotional aspect to it.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Only months after the band was formed, COVID-19 had different plans for us, so we have not been particularly lucky with this. However, we have managed to play already some local live shows, with the latest at Remedy Club, a month ago, being also the biggest one. We look forward to much more soon!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Be paid to attend music shows and taste beers. What no?
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
James Hetfield, David Gillmour, Tony Iommi, Mike Portnoy, and Flea, and maybe ask them to play some music together?
What’s next for the band?
Live shows, and promotion of our debut album “Without A Trace” that is releasing. In the meantime, we have already started working on new songs. We never stop!
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
We are pretty much on all the popular social platforms at the moment. You can find us here:
It will be a pleasure to hear from you!
Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Sounds like a trap question, we will go with biscuit!
