EMQ’s with ALVAREZ
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Austrian
Death/Doom Metal band, Alverez. Huge thanks to their founder, vocalist, and bass player, Alverez, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Alvarez and I am the singer and bass-player of ALVAREZ. I recorded the first ALVAREZ song ‘In Sumeria’ late 2019 and put the video on YouTube. Jim, the owner of Plague Demon Records, listened to this song and offered to release an ALVAREZ albums. We released “HADAD” in 2020 and “DIGITARIA” 2021, via PDR.
How did you come up with your band name?
Some of the musicians I played with before Alverez called me Alvarez as a nickname. That is the only reason for the band name. I just had no idea for a better band name. I like it!
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
I am from Austria and the guitar player is from Slovakia. The drummer is changing from album to album. Right now, we have a Polish drummer. The scene was big in the 80s and 90s. But there are still a lot of Metal fans out there. Especially in Poland there exists a very big and strong Metal scene!
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
The latest album is “DIGITARIA” and the latest video is ‘Black Light In The Dark’
Who have been your greatest influences?
Black Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio!
What first got you into music?
When I was a child, my brother played the “Paranoid” album from Black Sabbath all the time! I loved it and dreamed about playing bass guitar like Geezer B!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Bruce D. from Iron Maiden. I would love to make songs for him! The best metal singer ever, together with Dio and Ozzy!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I would choose every festival I can get to perform in!!! I love to do live and have some cool aftershow parties.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Hmm? Something delicate from a nice girl backstage… haha!!! Yezz
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Stay heavy and healthy! Have a drink with me. Cheers!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
This is a hard question. All of them in one big band.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy the energy of a live concert! I hate to be clean when I enter the stage!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
No more downloads! Only vinyl!!!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Paranoid” from Black Sabbath!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Phh, a lot of great gigs. The last show from the Moonspell EU tour in Portugal 1998. I think it was 1998. That one was so funny!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I would write books.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
My family.
What’s next for the band?
To release the new album “Moonshinewhores” in 2022
