EMQ’s With COUNTOWN

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Greek Nu-Metal band, Countown. Huge thanks to them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Our name is COUNTOWN and we are a 4 piece Nu-metal band from Athens, Greece. We were awarded best band in tif Helexpo 2015. Countown have been around since 2011, so many memorable moments, so many live performances all over the country, sharing the stage with many friends, got two full length albums, music videos and songs. You can find us in every music platform.

How did you come up with your band name?

We played for 1 year together and it was a karma effect, so the band name is COUNTOWN . Its count and town, and says about the measurement of everything around us nowadays. Everything is counted and ranked , there is no purity alive and we don’t like it.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from Athens, Greece. One of the biggest music countries in the EU for Metal music and Metal/Rock bands.

What is your latest release?

Our latest release is “Vrikolakes”single from our upcoming album «ΧΑΙΡΕΚΑΚΙΑ»

Who have been your greatest influences?

Soulfly, Staind and a mix of Groove Metal music with emotional screams and breakdowns.

What first got you into music?

Firstly Seattle Grunge music and secondly Nu-metal and Groove Metal back in the 00s.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

BMTH, Limp Bizkit, Bad Omens.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

On Sick New World !! It’s heaven on earth… Or hell on earth?!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

It’s the canvas stencils of our Nü-metal idols !

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay tuned because our 3rd album is gonna groove your head off.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Probably Kurt Cobain.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The feedback from the fans, and we hate playing music for the trends and for the money. This is not art at all.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Music industry has to change one thing, EVERYTHING. There are so many bands that paying for small steps that need years of commitment to achieve. Back in the days before the internet everything was healthy and the potential was always there. Now everything is so difficult , but stay strong and don’t leave.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

SLIPKNOT – “IOWA”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

All time classic habit is listening to Vinyl in living room. Delivers pure analogue music vibes, and feels more natural.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

The best gig was in Athens Technopolis in a huge Festival. The stage and crowd was on fire!!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

A psychologist for rockers!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Kurt Cobain, Chester Benington, Dimebag Darell, Scot Weiland , Chris Cornell in order to see through their eyes what rock and roll is.

What’s next for the band?

Third full length album «XAIΡΕΚΑΚΙΑ» (Malevolence), is going to be more fresh & banger as always!! We love the nu-stuff as much as the old ones but this time we are more aggressive and wiser.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We love Instagram and Spotify, they give direct opportunities to update and have daily impact to the fans and to new people who are interested in our Music.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I’m gonna go with the Roll!! As Fred Durst once said “keep on rollin’ baby.”

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

We love everyone who supports our act through all these years and difficult times.
