EMQ’s with MAY THE TEMPEST

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Munich, Germany based Metalcore band, May The Tempest. Huge thanks to harsh vocalist, Lucci, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Lucci, I’m the shouter in metalcore band ‘May The Tempest’ from Munich, Germany. We make noise since 2015. We have released two EPs in 2015 and 2016, toured with Miss May I through the Baltic states and we finally released our debut album “Rise To Remain” on March 19, 2021.

How did you come up with your band name?

We couldn’t really decide which name to take. In the end a good friend of us proposed ‘May The Tempest’ which we all liked, so we went for that.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We’re from Munich, Germany. The metalcore scene is pretty small here, which means we’re all a big family. Munich is not the smallest city, so it’s really nice to have a place where you can go and you know you’ll meet people you know and with which you can have fun.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is our single ‘Clouds’ which came out January 29th. But we released our first album “Rise to Remain” on March 19, 2021.

Who have been your greatest influences?

We’re all listening to different stuff, so there’s not really a band which influenced us the most. Our drummer for example listens to stuff like “Fleshgod Apocalypse” which surely influences our music somehow, while it’s bands like Polaris, Northlane, Tesseract that influence me. We don’t share “the one and only band”.

What first got you into music?

My parents are both musicians, so I never had the chance to not get into music.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Tough questions, and I’m pretty sure we would be on the same page here. But if we could collaborate with Northlane someday, that would be a dream come true for me.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Given the current situation, we really don’t care where we could play. We just want to finally get back on stage, no matter which stage it is.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Might be the love letter our bassist received one day. The person who wrote it spoke to him for a few minutes after a show, but I guess that was enough to fall in love already!! 😉

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Whenever you’re sad: “Schwirbel dir einen rein!”

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Chester Bennington.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Making music together with others is just the greatest feeling there is. That and being able to go on tour with your friends and go through these experiences together.

I hate the competition among some bands, especially in the underground scene. Why can’t some people just be happy for the success of others?

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

People should be more aware of what’s behind and shouldn’t take free music, big shows and all that for granted.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Well, of course we have to say it’s our upcoming album “Rise to Remain” 😉

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl! Hopefully, we can get our music out on vinyl in the future. Until then, we already have cassettes, so that’s the next best thing. Downloads are pretty boring, so CD’s would be next.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I think we had some of the best shows in the Baltic states when we supported Miss May I. We also had two social distancing shows last year which were absolutely healing. Of course, that’s something completely different to a normal show, but the mood was just awesome after all these “concert-less” months.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

The same we do now, so studying and working, we just would have more time for that. But we would be less happy.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Lynn Gunn of PVRIS, Marcus Bridge of Northlane, Leslie Nielsen, Filthy Frank and of course our good friend and photographer Josh Wagner. That’d be nice.

What’s next for the band?

We’re already writing new stuff. We don’t want to wait that long until we release something new after the album. We’re also planning some tours for the end of the year, but we’ll see how that goes.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We mainly use Instagram, Facebook, YouTube for that. But of course, the best way to get music out to people is over streaming services (Spotify & co.) or by touring.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Biscuit! I think that should be clear.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Whoever reads this: You’re awesome! Go check out our new album “Rise to Remain”. If you like it, let us know. If you don’t, let us know. If you didn’t read this, let us know.
