EMQ’s with RED ROLL
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQ’s interview, with Italian Rock band, Red Roll. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hello guys, Red Roll here, a rock band based in Italy! We’ve been playing together for 3 years more or less, but each member of the band has played since… I don’t remember… too many years has passed 😉!
From the beginning, we have been working hard on this project in different ways: We played a lot of cover to be able to start playing live… and to build our band feelings! But we started writing our own songs early on, too! We set up a crowdfunding to be able to buy an old bus (our “Ragnar”), we have a craft beer with our name and logo, we have a clothing line…
Almost one year ago we released our first single and EP: “At The End The Beginning”. Then recently we have been working with an Italian producer for a full album. At the moment we have all the new songs… we will record this album in December 2021, and it will be out in April 2022.
How did you come up with your band name?
Red Roll, for us means a red carpet to enter in another world, our world made by all our dreams, fears… Red roll is our way of life… a way to make sense of our being here!
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are based in Bologna, Italy. Here the situation is not so good for our music genre… I think people are more interested in other music styles. But, there are still some good clubs and situations where live rock music is appreciated!
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We released our first EP “At The End The Beginning” a year ago, then in June 2021 we released a new single, ‘Knives’ which will be part of our new upcoming album…
Who have been your greatest influences?
Our musical influences come from the “Rock world”, but each of us have different inclinations. Grunge, Metal, punk rock, and rock… this is our world! We love band like Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, Alter Bridge, Muse etc…
What first got you into music?
Mmm, it’s a difficult question… but I can say something about how Red Roll was born!
We started for the purpose of opening a concert for a big Italian band… they played in our city and the organisers of the concert asked to some local musician to open that concert. So, we started…
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Dave Grohl, Matt Bellamy, and Simon Neil!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
….. Download Festival probably!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
For sure a bra ….ahahaha!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Red Roll is not just a band, it is a way of life!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
We really enjoy the daily band life! Being a band is like being a family… we pass a lot of hours together, we share long journeys, we share beds and rooms…not only stages. It’s necessary really – strong feelings between the members to share all different kind of emotions!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
There a lot of wrong things in music industry… The main problem is that too often talent isn’t what it takes to stand out!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Ten” – Pearl Jam
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyls have an unrivalled charm in my opinion!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
In Bormio, Italy! We played a concert during the World sky championship!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Keith Richards, Dave Grohl and Ozzy Osburne… What a f. night!
What’s next for the band?
We are going to release our new full album… at the moment we are strongly working on it, ready for release in May 2022, with a lot of concerts and events to promote it! Hope to see you around 😉
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Guys it’s a great pleasure! Thank you for this space and hope to meet you during a live concert!
