Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Santiago, Chile based, Death/Black Metal band, Unblessed. Huge thanks to guitarist & vocalist, Paul Callahan, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Paul Callahan, leader, composer, guitarist and vocalist from Unblessed of Chile. We’ve been on road since 1999, keeping our flame burning through 5 full length albums, an EP, 1 Compilation, 3 DVD´s and toured over 11 countries in Europe, Brazil and Argentina too.

How did you come up with your band name?

Into a brainstorming, Unblessed is perfect for our music.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Santiago of Chile. We have a good scene, a lot of bands always producing materials and concerts too.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

It is the “Murdering Hope” album (2020) via Australis records and we’ve made 3 videos for this album.

Who have been your greatest influences?

I think old bands as Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Kreator, Slayer, Death, Vital Remains, Dissection, Dawn and Hypocrisy to name a few.

What first got you into music?

Being banger at first, then the creativity and the artistic search.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

Hmmm, I think Peter Tägtgren or Ihsahn.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken, Hellfest, 70000 Tons of Metal.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Drugs and friendship.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Keep safe, stay home and make music.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

A band with Cliff Burton, Chuck Schuldiner, Lemmy Kilmister and Michael Jackson on vocals.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Composing time, no doubt!

I hate when some members are not involved in procession of music or goals of the band.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

In my case, the waiting for upcoming albums, hahaha, but it isn´t a big deal.

I think it is vinyl, but any format is good. The most important thing is to be heard.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Sinfest Metal Festival, in Malta (April of 2018).

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Actor or writer.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Ozzy Osbourne, Morgan Freeman, Eric Cartman, Charlie Sheen And Silvia Saint.

What’s next for the band?

An upcoming album and the third tour of Europe, when we can.
